| A Mandala is a symbolic diagram, often viewed as a mystical map of the cosmos, usually circular, frequently referring to the cyclic view of life, nature, fate, time. Jen Delyths Keltic Mandala is a seasonal calender, including the solar Solstice and Equinox festivals, and the four fire festivals, which marked the turning of the seasons, and which were religious celebrations. Symbols for the four elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth, totem animals, and plants, are placed according to their symbolic seasonal, directional positions within the Mandala wheel. The Celtic folk are here woven into the ancient cross-symbol - the cross-quartered circle, representing the union of male and female energies. The Cross represents the four directions - four elements, four corners of earth (male energy). The Circle represents the Whole, the earth womb (female energy). In Wales, the Fair folk, or fair family are Y Tylwyth Teg. The circles in the grass of green fields are still called 'cylchau y tylwyth teg" - fairy rings. Fairies were things under the earth, for they were generally supposed to dwell in the lower regions, especially beneath lakes. The people of pembroke imagined that they inhabited certain enchanted green isles of the sea.ted with the mythical bard. |
